Role Title Senior Program/Project Manager Project Length On-going
Project Description The Infrastructure Services unit, part of the NSW DET Information Technology Directorate, in which I am senior program/project manager, is tasked with implementing & maintaining state-wide technology solutions that have a direct impact on every primary, high school, & TAFE student in NSW - over 1.5 Million users. CIO Magazine classify DET IT as the largest IT operation in Australia, with over 10,000 servers, 2,400 sites, 335,000 desktops/notebooks, 2 data centres, & 14 computer rooms. In terms of network connectivity (WAN/LAN), it is considered to be the Australian Government’s largest network. In this role I manage multiple concurrent projects, multiple direct reports (both project & technical resources), & multiple teams spread across multiple sites, data centres, & computer rooms. A key facet to every solution I deliver is service continuity & disaster recovery – as these concepts are critical for IT solutions that have state-wide significance.
  • State-wide netbook rollout – 90,000 units in year 1. Design and deploy: SOE – Windows 7, System Centre Configuration Manager (SCCM) & Operations Manager (SCOM), Computrace – BIOS embedded laptop tracking software
  • Backup & Restore Solution – Implement an enterprise backup & restore solution using Symantec NetBackup & PureDisk for servers across multiple data centres.
  • Data Protection Solution – Implement DFS-R (Distributed File System Replication) technology. Multiple sites into one replica.
  • Corporate Wireless LAN – Implement a WLAN environment to service over 700 users.
  • Designed & developed a SharePoint project management portal, including custom lists, project status reporting tools, dashboard, and other project management features.

Project Description I was Senior Project Manager with Alcatel-Lucent IT Services Division, and managed seven direct reports, both project and technical resources, in Australia and the Asia Pacific region. I was also the leader of a working group to improve Project Management competency within Alcatel IT Services. This included improving project management methodology, processes and templates.

Project Description DCW Global was a joint venture, based in Beijing - China, between the government of the Peoples Republic of China (Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Co-operation) and the University of New South Wales. I was appointed Chief Technology Officer and was based primarily in Beijing. The focus of the JV was to develop a plan to implement an online education and training system throughout China, using the existing national fibre and satellite networks.
  • Played a key role in "face-to-face" negotiations with Chinese government ministers and officials in drafting the JV's Memorandum of Understanding
  • Was responsible for the development of the online education master plan
  • Led all stakeholder, client, partner and vendor planning teams

Project Description Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, and Paralympic Games.

Being appointed the Results Systems Manager, I was in charge of sporting results delivery for selected sports. I held end-to-end responsibility for:

  • Development, testing and deployment of Olympic Sporting Results Software applications and sports results gathering and tabulation processes
  • Management of 75 resources - full time, part time and volunteer
  • Design, testing and deployment of all information systems used for sports results capture, tabulation and dissemination (TV Graphics, Scoreboards, Printed Results, Website)
  • Design and testing of all business continuity and disaster recovery plans
  • Compiling sporting results requirements from the IOC, SOCOG and sports federations – negotiated mutually agreed outcomes when needed
  • Managing the real-time live capture, tabulation and dissemination of sports results – including all Olympic Medal events

Employer Zed Connect Project Date January ’96 to December ‘98

Project Description Zed Connect was a Sydney based Internet Service Provider, and as the owner and chief architect, I had full and final responsibility for its development and success. Zed Connect was launched to the market in January 1996, and was officially identified as the 40th ISP in Australia. Success was rapid, and by the end of that year my company had been awarded “Best new ISP for 1996” by Your Computer magazine.

My primary tasks were managing network and technology requirements, such as servers for web, mail, ftp, etc., the design and building of the call centre and associated support services, direct hands-on configuration and maintenance of all network, gateway, routing, server and customer access equipment, the development and deployment of the firms website, online customer tools, and customer tracking and billing system.


Employer Third Network Overnight Project Date February ’93 to December ‘95
Role Title Project Manager & Station Manager Project Length 35 Months
Project Description I managed the development and launch of a national satellite radio broadcaster. Third Network Overnight broadcast midnight to dawn radio programmes, via the Optus C1 satellite, to over 45 radio stations around Australia. I was responsible for: all contract negotiations with vendors; management of stakeholders, service providers and re-broadcasting stations; leadership of studio design, construction, and maintenance; resource management of on-air, sales and administration staff; the setting and monitoring of operational budgets.
